Sensex volatile; capital goods, IT stocks gain,

MUMBAI: Indian markets continued to remain choppy Friday as traders lacked confidence after sudden outflows from the FIIs for the past few sessions. Capital goods and IT stocks were in demand while oil&gas space capped gains.

At 2:30 pm, Bombay Stock Exchange’s Sensex was at 14240.56, down 24.97 points or 0.18 per cent. The index touched an intra-day low of 14179.77 and high of 14483.70.

National Stock Exchange’s Nifty was at 4229.30, down 22.10 points or 0.52 per cent. The broader index hit a low of 4206.70 and high of 4311.25.
BSE Midcap Index was down 0.21 per cent and BSE Smallcap Index slipped 0.62 per cent.


Amongst the sectoral indices, BSE Capital goods Index was up 1.55 per cent, BSE IT Index moved up 1.46 per cent and BSE Healthcare Index gained 0.95 per cent. BSE Oil&gas Index slipped 1.81 per cent

Biggest Sensgex gainers were Tata Steel (3.42%), Tata Motors (3.33%), Larsen & Toubro (2.66%), Infosys Technologies (2.01%) and Grasim Industries (1.73%).

Losers comprised NTPC (-4.12%), Hindalco Industries (-3.2%), ONGC (-3.1%), ACC (-2.95%) and Mahindra & Mahindra (-2.35%).

Market breadth on BSE showed 1618 declines as against 946 advances.

Europe was in the green led by gains in banks and commodities. FTSE 100 was up 1.04 per cent, CAC 40 gained 0.54 per cent and DAX was down 0.12 per cent.
